Charles M. Reilly founded Reilly Plating Company in April 1969 in a small garage on New Hancock Street in Wilkes-Barre, PA. The firm was a pioneer in the application of Electroless Nickel plating, an emerging technology that applied Nickel Coatings to metals without the use of electricity. Reilly Plating Co. made its initial mark by plating semiconductors for the Radio Corporation of America (R.C.A.)

In 1970, the firm moved to its current 27-acre campus located in Nanticoke, Pa. The company needed room to grow, and its new location offered opportunity to expand its product line as well as its output. Charles added Chrome, Zinc, Gold, Silver and Tin alloy processes, which allowed Reilly Plating to cater to the electronics, aircraft, and office furniture industries. The firm grew steadily over the 1970’s and 1980’s from a small 8000 square foot facility to a 40,000 square foot facility. Automatic hoists and equipment improvements grew Reilly’s competitive edge and maintained its position amid rapidly growing foreign markets.

Joseph Reilly, current owner and president of the facility, became president of the company in 1989 upon the retirement of his father. The company continued to grow under Joe’s leadership. In the 1990’s the company further grew by adding a second 40,000 square foot facility. This new facility accommodated Reilly’s new processes of powder coating and electropolishing. Joe also renamed the company Reilly Finishing Technologies (R.F.T.), a new, all-encompassing name that catered to the companies’ additional services such as powder coating, manufacturing, warehousing, assembly, final packaging and an expanded fleet of trucks to be used for pickup and delivery.

And now today, a third generation of Reilly’s is taking the reins. Joe’s Sons, Joe Reilly Jr. and Jim Reilly, have taken on active roles in guiding the future of Reilly Finishing Technologies. Having spent years working throughout the facility, both gained hands-on experience across a wide range of operations—from racking and line operations to working alongside the maintenance team. This foundation on the production floor has given them a deep, practical understanding of the company’s processes, equipment, and day-to-day challenges. Building on the legacy established by their father and grandfather, Jim and Joe Jr. are committed to maintaining the company’s strong reputation while continuing to modernize operations and position Reilly Finishing Technologies for long-term growth.
